What’s Hot in NYC This Week: Sept. 8–13

From New York Fashion Week and US Open excitement to free pop-ups, exhibitions, food experiences and a citywide moment of remembrance, here’s what is making New York buzz from September 8 through 13.

New York does not really have an “off week.”

Just as summer begins to fade, the city shifts into one of its busiest cultural stretches of the year. Fashion takes over Manhattan, tennis dominates Queens, brands turn sidewalks into experiences, restaurants and food festivals draw crowds, and museums give New Yorkers new reasons to explore.

This week, from September 8 through 13, 2026, that energy is especially strong.

New York Fashion Week officially kicks into gear on September 10, while the US Open reaches its final stages in Flushing Meadows. At the same time, free exhibitions and pop-ups are appearing across Manhattan, giving New Yorkers plenty to do without necessarily buying a ticket.

So, what is actually worth putting on your calendar?

Here is The Daily Newyorks Hot List.

New York Fashion Week Takes Over the City

Fashion is always part of New York’s personality, but this week it becomes almost impossible to ignore.

The Spring/Summer 2027 edition of New York Fashion Week officially begins September 10 and features a packed calendar of runway shows, presentations and events. The schedule includes major names such as Ralph Lauren, Coach, Rachel Comey and Diane von Furstenberg, alongside emerging designers and new creative voices.

But you do not need a front-row invitation to experience the NYFW atmosphere.

Free and public-facing activations are happening around Manhattan, turning neighborhoods into temporary fashion stages.

The Soma NYFW Van

September 9–10

The Soma NYFW Van is bringing a mobile fashion activation to New York streets, with the first stop at Bryant Park.

Visitors can expect a branded experience featuring a Soma tote, cotton candy and a free Soma item. The activation is designed to move around the city during Fashion Week, making it one of those unexpected New York moments you might discover while simply walking through Manhattan.

Daily Newyorks pick: If you love fashion but do not have a runway invitation, this is the kind of street-level NYFW experience worth checking out.

Ann Taylor “This Is Ann” Pop-Up

September 8

Ann Taylor is also joining the NYFW energy with a SoHo experiential pop-up featuring campaign imagery, a New York street cart, an editorial-style newsstand, giveaways and collectible materials.

It is another example of how fashion week is no longer limited to runway venues.

In New York, the street itself becomes part of the show.

The US Open Is Entering Its Final Act

If fashion owns Manhattan, tennis owns Queens.

The 2026 US Open is heading toward its championship weekend, with the men’s and women’s finals scheduled for September 13 and September 12 respectively.

But the US Open experience extends beyond Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Ready, Set, Serve at Skyview

September 11–13

The Shops at Skyview in Queens is hosting a free US Open fan experience featuring a tennis photo booth, livestreams, a DJ, drinks and giveaways.

The schedule includes livestreams of several major finals:

  • Sept. 11: Women’s Doubles Final
  • Sept. 12: Men’s Doubles Final
  • Sept. 12: Women’s Singles Final
  • Sept. 13: Men’s Singles Final

The location is also close to the US Open grounds, making it an easy stop for fans looking to continue the tennis atmosphere outside the tournament itself.

And the technology behind this year’s tournament is part of the story too.

IBM and the USTA have introduced new AI-powered fan experiences designed to help tennis fans understand matches, statistics and tournament information in more personalized ways. IBM says its US Open technology supports digital experiences for more than 14 million fans globally.

That makes the US Open more than a sports event.

It is becoming a live demonstration of how sports, data and AI are coming together.

Free Exhibitions Are Giving New York More to Explore

One of the best things about New York is that some of its most interesting experiences do not require a traditional ticket.

New York in Moncler

September 9–13

Moncler’s “New York in Moncler” experience celebrates the fashion brand’s relationship with the city through an exhibition and other public-facing experiences.

It is part of the broader fashion-week atmosphere taking over Manhattan this week.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 Exhibition

September 8–13

For movie and fashion fans, Christie’s at Rockefeller Center is hosting a free public exhibition connected to The Devil Wears Prada 2.

The exhibition features clothing, jewelry and accessories connected to the film and runs through September 13.

It is exactly the type of pop-culture experience that makes New York’s event calendar so different from other cities.

Food, Coffee and Beauty Join the Hot List

Not everything this week is about fashion or tennis.

New York’s food and lifestyle scene is also busy.

Cherry Bombe House

Beginning September 9, Cherry Bombe is taking over a three-story space in the Meatpacking District for a 10-day experience centered around food and its community.

For anyone interested in food culture, women in the culinary industry and the business behind modern food media, this is one to watch.

Fashion Week Fueled by WHBM

September 11

Fashion Week meets coffee at Saint Coffee on Seventh Avenue.

White House Black Market is offering complimentary coffee and cookies while giving visitors a preview of its fall collection.

It is a small event, but it captures something very New York about this week: you can walk out for coffee and accidentally walk into Fashion Week.

CHANEL COCO MADEMOISELLE CRUSH ABSOLU

September 11–13

CHANEL is bringing a fragrance experience to 873 Washington Street in New York City’s Meatpacking District.

The event celebrates the COCO MADEMOISELLE CRUSH ABSOLU launch, with appointments available during the September 11–13 portion of the activation.

September 11: A Different Kind of New York Moment

There is one date this week that should never be treated simply as another item on an entertainment calendar.

September 11, 2026, marks 25 years since the attacks of September 11, 2001.

New York will mark the anniversary through ceremonies, remembrance, exhibitions and public tributes.

The 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s official commemoration ceremony will be held for family members of the victims, while the public can watch the ceremony online. The museum has also announced a new exhibition, “In Their Honor: 25 Years of 9/11-Inspired Service,” opening September 12.

That evening, the city’s skyline will once again carry the Tribute in Light, the two beams that have become one of New York’s most recognizable symbols of remembrance.

A special national broadcast will also feature Cyndi Lauper, Lainey Wilson and John Ondrasik as part of the 25th-anniversary “9/11 Tribute in Light” program.

For New Yorkers, this is not simply another event.

It is a moment to remember the people who were lost, recognize the first responders and reflect on how the city changed, and how it continued moving forward.

Why This Week Feels So New York

There is something special about September in New York.

The city comes back to life after summer. Offices fill again. Students return. Fashion takes over Manhattan. Tennis fills Queens. Restaurants get busy. Galleries and cultural institutions launch new seasons.

And somehow, all of it happens at the same time.

That is why a weekly guide like “What’s Hot in NYC” makes sense.

New York does not need one giant event to define its week. The city is defined by hundreds of smaller moments happening simultaneously, from a free coffee and fashion pop-up to a major sporting final, from an exhibition in Rockefeller Center to the lights above Lower Manhattan.

My Opinion

The best way to experience New York this week is not to plan every minute.

Pick one big thing.

Then leave room for something unexpected.

Go to Queens for tennis and stop somewhere you have never eaten. Walk through Manhattan during Fashion Week and see what catches your eye. Visit a free exhibition. Discover a neighborhood event.

That is the New York experience.

The city is always doing something.

You just have to step outside and find it.

What’s Hot in NYC This Week: Sept. 8–13 is your starting point.
